FAQ
What Makes You Different?
Other than just being incredibly weird? A lot. I began my fitness journey at 30. I’ve battled obesity and depression. I’ve been through a knee surgery and the agony of trying to change my life during mid-life. I’ve been through a divorce and am raising two kids. And that’s just my personal life.
What makes me REALLY different is my passion for not only training women but protecting and educating them. Through my own experience and those of friends, family, and clients, it has become painfully obvious that the medical community either doesn’t know how to care for our health or they just don’t care. Either way…it’s time to fight back.
I have made it my business to know everything I can about the diseases that ravage our bodies. Diseases like osteoporosis, sarcopenia (age related muscle loss), and frailty syndrome.
I’ve also made it my business to know how to monitor for and prevent them.
I know what kind of training is actually effective and I don’t mind telling you it’s not dance fitness or high reps with light weight.
I’m here to tell the truth. You need to lift heavy, go hard, jump, sprint, bend, twist, invert, mobilize and work on your range of motion. You need to train every single one of the fundamental movement patterns.
And you need someone to teach you how.
That person is me. I specialize in taking women who have never been active, fixing their relationship with their bodies, and then gradually moving them into a comprehensive fitness program that will increase their muscle mass, prevent osteoporosis, and work with peri-menopausal and menopausal bodies. I work hard and I expect the same from my clients.
If you’re ready for a complete change in the way your body feels and the way you feel about your body, it’s time to set up a consultation.
What Is Chronic Social Trauma?
Chronic social trauma happens when you are repeatedly exposed to traumatic events and messaging over time. These events may be things you experience in your family life as well as by constant exposure to a body-negative society. Examples of traumatic events include things like fat-shaming in the media (including books, movies, and advertisements), being put on a diet by a parent or other trusted adult, being bullied in school or other social settings for your appearance or physical abilities or disabilities, and exposure to any practices that separated you from your body or harmed your relationship with your body.
How Does Your Training Address Chronic Social Trauma?
There are two goals for the Body Safety and Integrity Program. The first is to create body safety and the second is to help you create integrity with yourself.
1) Body Safety:
Due to our constant exposure to a body-negative society, most of us have lost touch with our bodies. We’ve been taught not to trust them. We’ve been taught we’re not smart enough to live in them without outside help. Obviously, this is bullshit. Through the use of intuitive eating and a very gradual introduction to movement patterns, I help you relearn your body’s cues and how to explore movement in a safe, comfortable way.
2) Personal Integrity:
This has nothing to do with your relationship to the outside world and everything to do with your relationship with yourself…that’s why it’s PERSONAL integrity. For most women, we’ve been through the diet and exercise gamut which means we have a long history of being disappointed, usually with ourselves. In this program, you set your own 100% achievable goals. As time goes on and you prove to yourself that you can and will keep your fitness goals, your consistency will pay off and your experience with success will change the way you view yourself, the world around you, and what you’re capable of.
